Summer is where athletic development happens.
Big Sky Community School is launching a three-month summer periodized training program designed for young athletes who want to build strength, conditioning, agility, and athletic confidence heading into the next competitive season. Running throughout June, July, and August, the program offers structured training five days a week under the leadership of BSCS’s new Director of Sport Performance, Woody Dexter.
Athletes will train both indoors and outdoors throughout the summer. Three days each week are focused on strength and conditioning sessions at Moving Mountains. One outdoor training day each week will focus on speed, agility & field games at Len Hill Park, while the second outdoor day will center around hiking, biking, running, and conditioning work throughout Big Sky.
Programming is open to all Big Sky athletes, with two age-based groups: Senior Athletes (entering 9-12th grades) and Junior Athletes (entering 6-8th grades). Athletes participating in the five-day performance training program will receive individualized training programming designed around their age, goals, training background, and athletic development needs. We are also excited to offer a general fitness program for those looking to get stronger and healthier.

Big Sky Community School, Director of Sport Performance
Woody Dexter leads athletic performance at Big Sky Community School and coaches on-hill with the Big Sky Ski Education Foundation (BSSEF). He's been an Alpine Ski Coach with BSSEF for four years, working closely with young ski racers, many of whom are BSCS students, and he understands the demands of a competitive Big Sky season.
Woody competed in Alpine Ski Racing through middle school, high school, and two gap years, at regional, national, and international levels, while maintaining a 3.9 GPA and missing nearly half his school days each year for racing. That lived experience as a competitive student-athlete shapes how he coaches: he understands the tension between training, competition, and academic demands, and he builds programming that respects both.
He holds a B.S. in Kinesiology and a minor in Coaching from Montana State University (graduated with highest honors, May 2025), where he also interned with Bobcat Athletics Strength & Conditioning, supporting NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball and Men's and Women's Track & Field athletes.
At BSCS, he is building a performance program rooted in the belief that sport is not just a chapter of life, but rather a foundation for it, and his goal is to give every athlete he works with the tools, habits, and mindset to carry that forward long after their competitive years end.
Outside of the BSCS campus, Woody spends his time creating and playing music, training for triathlons, skiing, running, and biking in all various forms.
